Forbidden/Limited List

This page is a chapter in Book Duel Monsters II: Tournament Rulebook
If you're planning on playing in the tournament, be sure to check out this section to see which cards are allowed to be used in your Deck. Certain cards are forbidden from being used in your Deck and other cards are limited to one or two copies in your Deck. Japanese, Asian-English, and counterfeit cards are not legal for use in the official tournament, except for cards on the Japanese Exceptions list and the CES Counterfeits list.

Forbidden Cards

You can only use 1 card in total out of these cards in your Deck and Side Deck combined:

Limited Cards

You can only use 1 of each of the following cards in your Deck and Side Deck combined:

Semi-Limited Cards

You can only use 2 of each of the following cards in your Deck and Side Deck combined:

  • Apprentice Magician
  • Beckon to Darkness
  • Blue Flame Swordsman

  • D.D. Assailant
  • Good Goblin Housekeeping
  • Gravy Master
  • Ice Age Panic
  • Iron Cage
  • Manticore of Darkness
  • Mask of Darkness
  • Metamorphosis
  • Mist Body
  • Reckless Greed
  • Reinforcement of the Army
  • Revive
  • Silver Skull
  • Wall of Revealing Light

Categorical Limitations

Some cards have certain effects like destroying cards and preventing attacks. There are certain effect categories from which you may only select a few cards to use in your Deck or Side Deck.

Monster Removal

You can only use 2 cards in total out of these cards in your Deck and Side Deck combined:

  • Beckon to Darkness
  • Dark Hole
  • Deepest Impact
  • Ekibyo Drakmord
  • Fissure
  • Giant Flood
  • Grave Arm

Magic/Trap Removal

Control

You can only use 2 cards in total out of these cards in your Deck and Side Deck combined:

Lockdown

You can only use 2 cards in total out of these cards in your Deck and Side Deck combined:

Undestroyable

You can only use 2 cards in total out of these cards in your Deck and Side Deck combined:

Hard Limits

There can only be a fixed number of specific cards registered throughout the tournament.

Tournament-wide, after 5 copies of the following cards have been registered, no one else may use another copy in his/her Deck or Side Deck:
  • Tommy

Tournament-wide, after 4 copies of the following cards have been registered, no one else may use another copy in his/her Deck or Side Deck:
Tournament-wide, after 2 copies of the following cards have been registered, no one else may use another copy in his/her Deck or Side Deck:
Tournament-wide, for each of the following cards, after 1 copy has been registered, no one else may use another copy in his/her Deck or Side Deck:

Japanese Exceptions

A number of cards have only been released in Japan to date. These are the only Japanese cards permitted for use in the tournament.

CES Counterfeits

The only counterfeit cards permitted during the tournament will be from the Duel Monsters Tournament 2 Promotional booster packs. These cards are marked with a DMT2 ID number and include an amazing 500 unreleased cards from the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and the Ni-Ki-Oh! series.
